WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Temple Women's Gymnastics won three event titles as a team in Sunday's meet with William & Mary at the Kaplan Center, as it earned a score of 192.275 to defeat the Tribe (191.400) in its final regular season meet. Most impressive for the Owls on this day was their team vault score of 48.650, which broke the school record for best score in the event. Temple's mark on the apparatus surpassed the 48.450 tally the Owls earned back on Feb. 8, 2004 in a tri-meet at the University of Pennsylvania.
Senior Corrine Williams led the Owls in all around (38.750) to place third overall among four-event competitors. Senior Kaity Watson returned to action this week and worked all around, in which she posted Temple's second best score and her highest score in her career through four events (38.725) while fifth-year gymnast Katie Canning placed third among Temple all arounders with her score of 38.500.
On vault, Cannning led the Owls with her second-place overall score of 9.800, while Watson sported a season-high 9.775, ahead of senior Lexi Uscatu and sophomore Jasmine Johnson earning like scores of 9.725 to round out Temple's top three on the apparatus. For Uscatu, the mark tied her best score on the appartus during her time at Temple, while Johnson's was the best score she has ever earned on the vault.
Canning placed third on uneven parallel bars with her career-high score of 9.675 to lead the Owls in the event.
Williams tied for fourth overall on the apparatus with a score of 9.650, while Alexis Arena's posted a season-high 9.350 on the bars.
Watson's 9.700 on balance beam, which was her highest score since she began competiting for Temple, held up for the Cherry and White's top score in the event, while placing second to William & Mary's Brandy Stover. Williams tied with Kristin Milardo for fourth place with scores of 9.650.
The Owls flooded the final standings in the floor exercise.
Williams nabbed second place with her score of 9.825, which was just ahead of Canning in third (9.800), Jean Alban, who posted her career-high score on bars earlier, did the same with her floor routine, as she landed in fourth (9.725), while Margaret Walch tied her career-best with a 9.700.
Watson closed out her all-around with her 9.650 score that she earned with her floor routine.
With the regular season meet schedule in the books, the Owls look to next weekend's ECAC Championship, which will be held next Saturday beginning at Noon at the University of Pennsylvania.
