PHILADELPHIA – In the 2012 ECAC Championships held in The Palestra, the Temple women's gymnastics team placed third out of seven with a score of 192.450. Fifth-year gymnast Katie Canning, who has been the Owls' top performer all season, showed she is also among the best in the conference by winning the individual all-around title.

Canning combined for a score of 39.200 through the four events she worked, giving her the highest all-around score by a Temple gymnast in program history, breaking the former record point total earned by Adrienne Carver in 1997 when she posted a 39.025 in a dual-meet against Towson.

The Billerica, Mass. native tied for the conference title on beam and in the floor exercise, with a pair of 9.775's.

With a score of 194.400, the hosting Penn Quakers won the conference title. Towson was the runner up and the only other team to beat out Temple with its 194.375. The Owls score was enough to surpass Cornell (192.350), Brown (192.250), William & Mary (191.925) and Yale (191.450).

In the four events that accounted for the team's third place score, the Owls were garnered with a 48.175 in the floor exercise before enduring a score of 48.625 on the vault, a 48.425 on uneven parallel bars and a total of 47.125 on the balance beam.

Before the going to the balance beam for the final event, the conference title was within sight, as Temple sat in third place with a score of 145.325, trailing ECAC champion Penn by .200 for first place.

The Owls would have three misses on the beam, nullifying its chances to pull out the team all-around title.

Temple finished the event with a score of 47.125 to close out its day in the competition.

In the first three events, the Owls had strong performances from the start, hitting a perfect six-for-six in each event.

On vault, the Owls earned a team score of 48.625, a mark that was just 0.025 off from tying the school record, which the team set last week at William & Mary.

In the event, three Temple gymnasts reached career-highs, including sophomore Jasmine Johnson (9.775), freshman Natali Ruzich (9.625) and senior Corrine Williams, who tied her four-year best with a 9.650.

Canning's 9.825 on the apparatus gave her the Owls' top score in the event.

Temple opened the seven-squad competition on floor after having the first rotation off.

Senior Kaity Watson, who also competed in all-around and received a fourth place metal for her performance on bars, got the day started for the Owls in floor exercise, where she posted a 9.500.

Canning led the Owls with her routine, earning an impressive 9.875. Senior Corrine Williams, who was getting her day started in the all-around, came in second place for Temple with her 9.700.  Sophomore Jasmine Johnson's 9.575 held up at the third-highest score for the Owls.

From there, the team went to the vault where it remained consistent after nabbing its school-record score a week ago.

Watson led the Owls on parallel bars with her 9.775, which earned her spot on the podium during the post-meet award ceremony. Canning and Williams placed second on the team with identical scores of 9.725. Ruzich posted a strong score in the event, earning the fourth-best score for the Owls with her 9.675.

From here the Owls wait until Sunday at midnight to find out if Canning will be selected to the NCAA Regional Championships on April 7 in Raleigh, N.C. As for the rest of the team; they'll wait until April 12 to get back in action for one final time this season when they take to the USAG Championships up at Bridgeport, Conn.
