PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – For Temple Women's Gymnastics, the main event of the year is here. On Saturday afternoon in the confines of the historic Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, the Owls will compete against six other schools for the ECAC Championship.

The Owls (9-14) come into the final meet of the season with an average score of 190.353, which has them ranked fifth in the conference. In their lone home meet of the season at the Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational back on Feb. 5, Temple earned its highest total score in school history with a 193.275.

Coming into Saturday's seven-squad showdown, the Owls are coming off a win against William & Mary on the road. At Kaplan Arena last Sunday, Temple broke the program's record for its best score in the vault event with its combined total of 48.650. On that day, the Owls saw many of its gymnasts reach career bests in their events.

The senior class has certainly guided the team thorough its nine meets this season.

Fifth-year gymnast Katie Canning is ranked sixth in ECAC with her average all-around score of 38.463. Returning after rehabbing from having one of her labrums repaired, Canning has won all-around at four meets this season. At Eastern Michigan, the Billerica, Mass. native posted her highest four-event combined score of 38.925.

Senior Corrine Williams is ranked 17th in the conference with her average all-around score of 37.954, while classmate Kaity Watson is coming off her career-high score in all-around last week at William & Mary.

Vault specialist Alexandra Uscatu helped the Owls to the program's best score ever on the event with her career-high score of 9.725.

Six-year head coach Aaron Murphy has a strong core of underclassmen to back his seniors as well. Over the course of the year, Jean Alban and Sylvie Borchel have bolstered the Owls' scores on beam.

Sophomore Jasmine Johnson has provided much support in the vault lineup with her average score of 9.578, which is ranked second-best on the team.

Classmate Heather Zaniewski has backed Temple is vault, bars and beam over the course of the season, while freshman has made an impact early in her Cherry & White career on vault and bars.

Of the four events, Temple is ranked third in the ECAC on the balanced beam, which has been overseen by first-year assistant coach Kim Parsons.
