PHILADELPHIA – The third leg of the 2012 outdoor track and field season got underway for the Temple Owls, as they went up against several city rival schools at the Philadelphia Big 5 & Friends Invitational at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

On the men's side, the Owls had a day of strong first impressions to open the season despite it being an non-scored meet.

In his only event, senior Travis Mahoney ran the 800 meter event in a time of 1:53.80 for first place overall. His classmate, Louis Parisi returned to action for the first time since the cross country season by running a sixth place time of 1:54.88 in the event.

Sophomore Josh McFrazier continues to blow his opposing runners away, as he won the title in the 110 meter hurdles with his speedy finish time of 14.65. Senior Tim Malloy was the runner-up to Malloy in the event with his second-place time of 15.29.

On the track, the Owls won another event title, but as a group. In the 4x100 relay, the Temple 'A' squad elapsed the relay in a time of 41.96, besting Penn in second (42.88) and its fellow 'B' squad in third (43.14).

Also in a collective competition, the Owls earned second place in the 4x400 meter relay with its 'A' squad, as it finished in a time of 3:17.28.
In the field events, Derek Holland claimed Temple's only title when he took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 14.14 meters

Brian Littlepage took part in the hammer throw for Temple, where he had the second farthest throw in the event with a distance of 48.21. Later in the afternoon, Littlepage also took part in the discus throw, where he lead the Owls with a toss of 42.91 meters for third place overall.

Ryan Maccie and Chris Zhou competed in the shot put, placing in the order of fifth and sixth for Temple with distances of 12.76 meters and 12.60 meters, respectively.

Before the day wrapped up, Lionel Wilson had Temple's fastest time in the 400 meter dash, finishing in third place time of 49.57—ahead of Damian Myers in fourth (49.90) and Alan Harding (50.90).

Temple jammed the middle of the top 10 in the 100 meter dash, having Dylan Pensyl take fifth (11.21) before Darryl McDuffie in sixth (11.24) and Kaseem Cheek in seventh (11.32).

McFrazier wrapped up his day racing in the 200 meter dash where he stole second place with his time of 22.65.

Kevin Kuruc led the Owls with the fourth-best overall time in the 400 meter hurdles, while Lionel Wilson nabbed a fourth place finish in the long jump with his distance of 6.29 meters.

Temple will look to next weekend's meet when it heads to College Park, Md. for the Maryland Invitational on Saturday, March 31.
