Owls Ready To Compete At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – For track and field, the granddaddy event of them all is here, as the 118th running of the Penn Relays takes place this weekend at the University of Pennsylvania on the track at the historic Franklin Field.
Temple's male and female runners will combine to compete in 23 events over the course of Thursday through Saturday, in what is the nation's largest track and field meet.
On Thursday at 10:00 a.m., the women's squad will get the meet started for Temple, as Jade Wilson and Tessa West will participate in the 400 Meter Hurdles. Also competing on the first day for the Owls' women side will be Brianna Alverez and Kiersten LaRoche in the long jump, Margo Britton in the shot put and discus throw and Alanna Owens in the shot put and hammer throw. The women's squad will also race in the 4x100 and 4x400 heats on Thursday.
Over the final two days, the women will take part in the 4x200 heats and the sprint medley on Friday and the 4x800 relay on Saturday.
For the men, senior Travis Mahoney will get thing started for the men's squad, as he'll race in the 3000 meter steeplechase—an event in which he stands as the school's record holder.
When the Relays pick up on Friday, the men will compete in five relay events in addition to Josh McFrazier running in the 110 meter hurdles, Tim Malloy and Darryl McDuffe taking part in the high jump, Dylan Pensyl in the long jump and Brian Littlepage in the discus throw.
Littlepage will also take part in the hammer throw on Friday, while Gabe Pickett participates in the triple jump.
With many nationally renowned programs competing against the Owls this weekend, Temple will get a strong test before going into Atlantic 10 Championships next weekend.
