Box Score

ST. LOUIS –
Temple's first Atlantic 10 Conference series of the season came to a close on Sunday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center, where the Owls suffered a 10-1 defeat to the Saint Louis Billikens. The Billikens used all of the momentum it gained from Saturday's ninth inning come-from-behind rally to sweep the first league series of the season.

With the loss, the Owls fall to 10-14 on the year and 0-3 in A-10 play. Redshirt senior Steve Nikorak was hit with his fourth loss of the season, dropping him to 1-4 on the year, while Damian River notched his second win of the season for the Billikens, who won their school-record 13th straight game to improve to 18-5 on the year and 3-0 in conference play.

Saint Louis, who came into this weekend with the nation's 45th-best batting average (.309), demonstrated its consistency at the dish in the rubber match, having 15 hits that led to 10 runs.

Temple trailed 8-0 before finding its way on the scoreboard in the eighth inning.

Freshman Nick Lustrino was drilled by a pitch, yielding him to a free base. Later in the inning Allen Stiles doubled into right center field before junior Elijah Yarborough grounded into the fielder's choice to score Lustrino.

Nikorak, who went just 3.1 innings on the mound, led the Owls at the plate with two hits, going 2-for-4 on the day.

The Billikens scored five runs off of Nikorak—only three were charged to the Owls' right hander, as Temple's defense had two of its six errors with him on the mound.

Senior Dan Moller took over for Nikorak in the middle of the fourth inning with one out and went on to pitch the next 2.2 innings.

Moller allowed three more runs before the final two Saint Louis runs were scored, but not charged to the redshirt junior Steve Visnic.

The Owls have some time until they return to A-10 play, as it will not take on a league partner until Easter weekend when they head to the Bronx April 6 and 7 to take on the Fordham Rams.

In the meantime, Temple will host the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Tuesday at Skip Wilson Field for the first round of the Liberty Bell Classic. First pitch will be at 3:00 p.m.
