Temple set to face Jacksonville at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA - With an undefeated 5-0 record on the line, one of 12 in NCAA Division I, the Temple lacrosse team will play at Jacksonville (3-1) and #5 Florida (4-2) this week. The Owls are receiving votes in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Assocation (IWLCA) Division I Top-20 poll, effectively ranking them as one of the top 25 teams in the country. Temple's last national ranking came back in 2006 when it was 19th in the poll early in that season.

MAKING HISTORY
Temple's most recent victory, a 21-10 win at Lafayette, marked the first time the team has scored 21 goals since it happened twice in the 2002 season. The Owls' 5-0 start is the best since 1988 when Temple was 19-0 and won the NCAA Championship for the second time.

NATIONAL LEADERS
The white-hot Owls are averaging 14.6 goals per game to rank 15th in NCAA Division I out of 250 teams. Their 8.2 goals allowed average ranks 16th, and their 99 total points (goals plus assists) rank 12th in the nation. Senior Stephanie Markunas, coming off a five-goal, five-assist performance at Lafayette on March 3, currently ranks 20th in the nation in points per game at 4.5. Senior goalkeeper Tess Bishop ranks in the top 30 in goals against average (8.6), saves (33) and saves percentage (.465).

OWLS' LEADERS SO FAR
Markunas and Stephany Parcell have scored 11 goals apiece to lead Temple this season, and Markunas also leads the Owls in assists with seven. Jaymie Tabor is in double digits in goals with 10, and Kelly Syphard has scored nine. Karly Cohen is tied for second in total points with Parcell, having scored six goals and recorded six assists.

SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE
Jacksonville is 3-1 overall and has a nine-game home win streak on the line against the Owls. The Dolphins, who are 11th in the country in scoring with a 15.25 goals per game average, are led by a pair of sophomores Jen Cosgrove and Ali Hoffman. Cosgrove has 12 goals while Hoffman has nine.

SERIES HISTORY VS. JACKSONVILLE
Temple fell just short at Jacksonville a year ago after a furious rally in which the Owls scored three goals in the last minute and eight seconds, but still lost 13-12. Two seasons ago the Dolphins earned a 12-4 victory, also on their home field, in the first year of their existence. Mindy McCord has been coaching the team since its inception in 2010.

SCOUTING FLORIDA
Fifth-ranked Florida is also a team in its third year of competition, but has enjoyed a huge amount of success on the national stage already. As a second-year program in 2011, the Gators earned their first NCAA Tournament berth and advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Duke, 13-9. This season Florida is 4-2 overall, and will play at Georgetown before returning home to host the Owls on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY VS. FLORIDA
The Owls have faced Florida just once, suffering a 19-4 loss in 2011.

COMING UP
After playing four straight games on the road, Temple will be back at Geasey Field for five of its next six games, starting with a contest against Delaware on Saturday, March 17 at 1:00 p.m.
