Fanz Places First In Steeplechase At Patriot Invite

FAIRFAX, Va. – Sophomore Phil Fanz turned in Temple's most impressive finish on the day at the George Mason Patriot Invitational on Saturday for the men's side. With a personal best time of 9:18.41, Fanz took first place in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Saturday's meet for Temple was a strong one, especially for its sophomores. In addition to Fanz posting a career-best time in the steeplechase, Darryl McDuffie and Gabe Pickett also posted new personal bests in their events, while senior Tim Malloy did as well.
McDuffie landed a mark of 1.98 meters in the high jump, earning himself sixth place. Malloy tied his personal best in the high jump with the same landing mark as McDuffie. Pickett took part in the triple jump, where he set a mark of 14.70 meters for fourth place.
Freshman Matt Kacyon put forth an impressive performance in the 5000 meter run as he took over fifth place with his time of 14:52.37.
In other field events, Brian Littlepage earned a strong finish in the hammer throw with his toss that went 46.57 meters. Littlepage also competed in the discus throw, where he ended up taking sixth place spot of 45.74 meters.
Sophomore Ryan Maccie took 11th in the shot put with his toss of 12.63 meters.
Temple will head to Princeton for a weekend of events for the Larry Eliis Invitational, which will be held Friday and Saturday, April 20-21.
