Owls have two home games remaining; will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday
PHILADELPHIA - Temple lacrosse will celebrate Friends of Jaclyn Week when Saint Joseph's visits Geasey Field for a 3:00 p.m. game on Friday, April 20. The Owls' adopted sister Lily Adkins and her family will be recognized as part of the now-annual tradition celebrating FOJ, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families.
Temple (8-7, 2-3) has two games remaining in its fight to earn a spot in next weekend's Atlantic 10 Championships at Richmond. The Owls currently stand in a tie for fifth place, and four teams will earn berths in the tournament. Saint Joseph's (5-9, 1-4) has been eliminated from contention. Temple will honor eight seniors prior to its game on Sunday against league-leading Massachusetts. Check back to owlsports.com later in the week for more information about Senior Day.

The FOJ Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families. Through the “Adopt-a-Child” program, FOJ creates lasting relationships between children battling pediatric brain tumors and athletic teams. The child becomes an honorary team member, gaining a new group of friends, and the team gets inspiration from the child. FOJ's programs are based on love, support, and friendship between the child, the child's family, and his or her “adopted” team. There are currently over 300 children across the country adopted in twenty different sports. 1,300 teams are waiting to adopt. Today's game is part of the 2012 Friends of Jaclyn Week to raise awareness about pediatric brain tumors, help support the growth of FOJ, and ultimately help improve the quality of life of children with pediatric brain tumors. Temple is a huge supporter of FOJ.
The team's honorary guests at the game will be the Adkins Family- Mike, Trish, Lily and Chloe. Six-year old Lily was “adopted” by the Owls two years ago through FOJ, and was the second adoption the team has made through the program. Devon Lam, daughter of Danny and Angela Lam, was the team's first adopted sister who sadly lost her battle with cancer in December, 2008. Lily is a survivor of an ependymoma brain tumor and has been doing well for a few years, since the discovery and initial treatment of her tumor when she was 14 months old.
Temple is coming off a tough road trip with an overtime loss at George Washington followed by another loss at Richmond. Karly Cohen led the Owls with seven goals for the week, scoring four at GW while tallying an assist, and scoring three more at Richmond. Both Stephanie Markunas and Stephany Parcell scored six goals on the week. Parcell led the team at Richmond with four goals, and Markunas scored three goals in each game while also recording an impressive 13 draw controls for the week along with three assists.
Parcell leads the team in scoring with 33 goals this season. Markunas has scored 27 goals and recorded 21 assists for a team-best total of 48 points. Cohen is close behind with 26 goals along with 11 assists for 37 points.
The Owls lead Saint Joseph's 12-2 in the all-time series and have won both of the last two meetings.
