7.16.12 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA – The Basketball Alumni Legends League (The-BALL), a summertime professional hoops league designed for bona fide college basketball junkies, has announced its rosters for its Philly-D.C. Showcase games being held Aug. 4 and Aug. 5. For Philadelphia's team, five former Temple players have committed to play for the squad, including: Dustin Salisbery (2003-07), Mark Tyndale (2004-08), Ryan Brooks (2006-10), Dionte Christmas (2005-09) and Ramone Moore (2008-12).
The new league is designed to feature former college standouts from the local universities, giving the teams instant star power and a built-in fan base. The-BALL, which will officially get underway during the 2013 summer season, will be run from June to August filling a void for basketball fans and giving top players a high-quality professional hoops alternative during their off-season break from the NBA D-League or international competition.
The-BALL is for those players that haven't landed in the NBA but still have a loyal following in the cities where they made a name for themselves while playing at the collegiate level.
Salisbery ranks 30th on Temple's all-time scoring list, having 1,276 points during his Owl career. Also in his four years as a guard, he hauled down 469 rebounds. He also compiled 172 assists and 137 steals and made 177 three-pointers.
Tyndale, who had a brief professional stint in Australia, is the only Temple player to rank among the school's all-time top 20 in points (1,729 points/8th), rebounds (733/12th) and top 10 in assists (377/10th). He earned first team all-Big 5 as a junior (2006-07) and senior (2007-08), and second team all-Atlantic 10 as a senior. As a junior he compiled a career best 19.5 scoring average, finishing second in the A-10 to Christmas' 19.7 average.
Brooks ranks 32nd on the Temple all-time scoring list with 1,225 points. As a junior he averaged 10.6 points per game and ranked fourth in the A-10 in three-point accuracy (59-144, .410), earning second team all-Big 5 and A-10 all-Championship accolades.
Christmas, who earned Honorable Mention All-America honors as a senior, earned the 2009 Philadelphia Big 5 Most Outstanding Player award, capping a career that included three first team all-Big 5 selections and two first team All-Atlantic 10 honors. He ended his career with an Owls' career record of 319 three-pointers made while scoring 2,043 points, 4th all-time at the school. The 6-5 shooting guard is the only player in A-10 history to lead the league in scoring in three consecutive seasons.
Moore, a First Team all-Atlantic 10 Conference selection last season, led Temple in scoring and ranked third in the conference with a 17.3 average. The Philadelphia native (Southern HS) placed second in the conference in minutes played (36.6 mpg.) and second on Temple in three-pointers (57) and assists (110). He ended his career in 27th place on TU's all-time list with 1,393 points.
The-BALL will hold its Showcase games at the Charles E. Smith Center on the campus of George Washington University on Aug. 4 and at Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph's University Aug. 5. For tickets, click here.
