PHILADELPHIA - Temple University has been selected as the 18th best men's basketball program in the last 50 years by ESPN.com. The website lists Temple's starting five for the last 50 years. The guards are Mark Macon (1987-91) and Pepe Sanchez (1996-00) with the forwards being John Baum (1966-69) and Eddie Jones (1991-94). The Owls starting center is listed as Lavoy Allen (2007-11). Three top reserves are Aaron McKie (1991-94), Terence Stansbury (1980-84) and Tim Perry (1984-88). John Chaney was named the coach of the team.
Temple earned 307 points in the ratings system with 197 of those being accumulated from 1984 through 2001 when the Owls went to 17 NCAA Tournaments and reached the Elite Eight five times.
