Tuesday's match is the start of a long week for the Owls, as it will be the first of three games that they will play between now and Sunday evening. After opening its home slate with the Jaspers, Temple will make its farthest voyage since 2006 when it heads out to the state of California for a pair of weekend matches against Cal-Poly and Cal. State-Northridge.
At the Fairfield Inn By Marriott Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va. over a week ago, the Owls took on two strong squads in Virginia Tech and James Madison. Coming away with a loss and a tie, the Owls still managed to show a lot of character and put up intense battles in both marquee matchups. In both games during their season-opening weekend, Temple had goals waived off due to offside calls, so when the Owls take the field Tuesday, they will be looking for their first tally of the season.
In the team's season-opening weekend, sophomore goalkeeper Dan Scheck got the nod to start both games. After a solid performance against Virginia Tech, Scheck was named the starter again when proven senior Bobby Rosato went down with an injury in practice the day before the game against James Madison. Scheck was even more impressive in his second start, as he made stops on all four balls that were kicked his way, allowing him to notch the first shutout of his collegiate career. Coming into the Owls' home-opener, Scheck has a microscopic goals against average of 0.45 and has needed to make just five saves due to the blockade that has been built in front of him by his defensive unit.
Like the Owls, the Jaspers are in search of their first victory of the season.
Manhattan opened its season at home against Villanova, who handed the Jaspers a 5-1 loss. Since then, the de La Salle Christian Brother affiliated college has been shut out by Gonzaga, Oregon State and Columbia in the midst of their current nine-game road swing.
Leading the way for the Jaspers with a goal and two points is Tommy Amos. Senior netminder George Ellis has played the majority of time in between the posts, allowing him to have 18 saves on the year.
