Thirteen national TV broadcasts give Owls maximum exposure

Complete Schedule

PHILADELPHIA -
A minimum of 14 television appearances, including 13 national broadcasts, highlight the 2012-13 Temple University men's basketball schedule released today.

For the first time since the 2001-02 season, the Owls will play regular season games on network television as Temple's game at Kansas on January 6 and its regular season finale against Virginia Commonwealth at the Liacouras Center will be broadcast live by CBS.  Four of Temple's Atlantic 10 Conference games will also be televised nationally by the CBS Sports Network.

The Owls play a minimum of seven games on ESPN entities starting with the season opener at Kent State on November 13 (noon) which is part of the 2012 ESPN College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon.  That game will be televised by ESPN.  Temple's remaining ESPN entity games include: Dec. 5 – at Villanova (ESPN2); Dec. 8 – vs. Duke (ESPN); Dec. 22 – vs. Syracuse (ESPN2); Jan. 12 – Saint Louis (ESPNU); Jan. 26 – at Butler (ESPN2); Feb. 9 – at Dayton (ESPNU).

Temple's conference opener at Xavier on January 10 will be a CBS College Sports Network regional telecast.

Seventeen of Temple's 31 opponents competed in the postseason in 2011-12 with seven foes (Duke, Syracuse, Kansas, Xavier, Saint Louis, St. Bonaventure and VCU) earning bids to the NCAA Tournament.  Four teams on the schedule (Saint Joseph's, Dayton, Massachusetts and La Salle) participated in the NIT while four teams (Kent State, Rice, Buffalo and Bowling Green) took part in the College Insider.com Tournament. Delaware and new A10 member Butler played in the College Basketball Invitational.

The Liacouras Center, which will debut a new state-of-the-art video system for the 2012-13 season, will host a record 17 home men's basketball games starting with the home opener against Rice on November 17.

The Owls will play three home games in December against opponents yet to be announced in the Gotham Classic. The team's nationally-televised game against Syracuse on Dec. 22 is also part of this exempt tournament.

"This is an imposing schedule which features perennial national powers in Duke, Kansas and Syracuse," said Temple head coach Fran Dunphy. "That, coupled with the Atlantic 10 Conference slate and the Philadelphia Big 5 rivalries, will make for a challenging season."

Temple, who won its record 10th Atlantic 10 Conference regular season title in 2011-12, returns seven letterwinners including two starters from that squad that posted a 24-8 record.
