NEW YORK, N.Y. – Temple Women's Track & Field went to the 168th Armory in New York for Friday's running of the annual Gotham Cup. Coming off a week where it had several strong finishes at the Rutgers Invitational last Saturday, the Owls once again demonstrated a solid effort, as several TU competitors set new personal best marks. In addition to setting new career best marks, sophomore Margo Britton and juniors Ambroia Iwugo and Kiersten LaRoche all met ECAC qualifying standards.

Taking part in the 500 meter dash, Iwugo came away with the sixth-best overall time at 1:13.94, which was ahead of senior Jade Wilson in 16th place, clocking in at 1:19.58. LaRoche set the third furthest mark in the long jump with her landing spot of 5.83 meters, while Britton earned a spot for herself in next month's ECAC Championships with a fourth place toss in the weight throw (16.40 meters). Later in the afternoon, Britton's throw of 14.07 meters earned her third place in the shot put.

The 800 meter run was the event the Owls saw most of their success, as three runners set new personal best times. Sheina Roberts crossed the finish line in sixth place with a time of 2:17.30, ahead of teammates Tessa West (2:19.96) and Michelle Davis Timothy (2:23.05).

Freshman Jamila Janneh improved her season best make in the high jump with her mark of 1.60 meters, which placed her fifth overall.

In the 60 meter hurdles, senior Jade Wilson took second place in the preliminary with a time of 8.93, qualifying her for the final, where she ran the event just a tenth of a second later (8.94) to stay consistent and earn the runner-up position.

Temple's 4x800 meter relay squad had a good showing. Stephanie Dorantes, Andrea Mathis, Tonney Smith and Elizabeth-Paige White teamed up in the event to place third with a combined time of 9:52.84, putting them only behind Villanova and Fordham.

In the day's earlier events, sophomore Hollis Coleman put up a new personal best time in the 400 meter dash (59.85), putting her in 20th place overall. Demesha Davis also ran the event for Temple, finishing at a quicker time of 58.44 for 11th place.

Getting the afternoon started for the Owls, Isatta Kenneh qualified for the 60 meter dash final, where she tied for ninth place (7.73).

From here Temple will prepare for next Friday's (Jan. 18) meet at the Georgetown Invitational.
