Women's T&F Turns In Strong Performances At Hoya Spiked Shoe Club Invite

BETHESDA, Md. – Temple Women's Track and Field had another strong outing on Friday afternoon at the Hoya Spike Shoe Club Invite, hosted by Georgetown University. In the meet, which featured competition from host Georgetown, Delaware State and Atlantic 10 rival La Salle, the Owls had first place finishers in six events, including freshman Jamilah Janneh, who swiped top marks in both the high and triple jumps.
Janneh's landing spot of 1.55 meters in the high jump earned her a first place title in the event for the third time this season. Her mark of 11.15 meters in the triple jump was also an event-best.
Joining Janneh with first place finishes was sophomore Margo Britton. In what was a Temple-only competition, Britton beat out her teammates by throwing 13.51 meters in the shot put. Finishing behind Brittion and setting new personal best marks was Alexis Kennedy (11.93m), Jennifer Abercrumbie (11.32m) and Kiersten LaRoche (10.33m).
Senior Tonney Smith came away with the top finish time in the 500 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 1:17.23, while classmate Tessa West took part in the 60 meter dash as the solo performer, where she posted a personal record time of 9.50 in the 60 meter dash.
Smith, along with Demisha Davis, Ambrosia Iwugo and Michelle Davis Timothy ran as Temple's 'A' squad and won the 4x400 meter relay, posting a time of 3:56.95.
Issata Kenneh, Iwugo and Davis all set new personal best times in the 300 meter dash.
Iwugo claimed the runner-up position with her time of 39.94, ahead of Davis (39.95) and Kenneh (40.75), who came in the order of fourth and fifth.
Earlier in the afternoon, Kenneh ran the 60 meter dash in 7.77 for a second place finish, which was consistent woth her preliminary round placement, which was yielded by her time of 7.73.
Crystal Hercules (8.01) and Gennie DePass (8.12) rounded out the top five for the Owls in the 60 meter dash with their times .
Junior Anna Pavone ran the 3000 meter run, where she earned fourth place with her time of 10:19.91, which was just ahead of sophomore Jenna Dubrow, who was running her first event of the indoor season. Dubrow claimed fifth place in the event, as she turned in a time of 10:32.03.
From here, the Owls will prepare to go up against highly touted national competition when they head to the Penn State National Open during the weekend of Jan.25-26.
