Women's Distance Medley Team Takes 2nd Place At Penn State National Invite

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Penn State National Invitational got underway on Friday on the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track, where Temple's women's squad had competitors in five events.

In a collective effort, sophomore Anna Pavone, freshman Demisha Davis, senior Tonney Smith and freshman Jenna Dubrow combined for Temple's best event finish in day one. Taking part in the distance medley, the four combined for a time of 11:56.75, which was strong enough for second place in the event, coming up only short to Saint Joseph's (11:53.95)

Sophomore Kiersten LaRoche took part in the pentathlon for the first time this season. Through the five events, LaRoche placed fourth among her competitors. Her mark of 5.72 meters in the long jump helped her to a second place finish, giving LaRoche her highest ranking among all the events she took part in.

LaRoche placed third in both the high jump (1.68m) and in the 800 meter run (2:33.45) and fourth in the hurdles (9.06) and shot put (9.87m).

Taking part in the weight throw, sophomore Margo Britton landed her threw 16.63m for a ninth place best spotting.

Seniors Isatta Kenneh and Jade Wilson went up against some of the nation's best competitors, as well. Kenneh ran the 60 meter dash in 7.73 for 17th place, while Wilson rushed for an 18th place finish in the 60 meter hurdle in a time of 8.80.

Temple will continue competition at the Penn State National Invitational on Saturday.
