Scootie Randall Interview

PHILADELPHIA –
Senior guard Scootie Randall of the Temple University men's basketball team has earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology after successfully completing his coursework following the Fall 2012 semester.  Randall now joins teammates T.J. DiLeo and Jake O'Brien as Owls who own undergraduate degrees.

“It feels really good. I am just following in the steps of the guys who have been here before me,” said Randall. “It is a great success for my family, as well as being a great thing for me.”

“I am so proud of Scootie.  It is a tremendous accomplishment for him and his family,” said Temple head coach Fran Dunphy. “It's truly a Philadelphia story and I think Temple is truly Philadelphia's university. It has educated many different people in many different ways. The mission of Temple is to give everybody an opportunity. It's what's so special about this place.”

Randall, a Philadelphia native (Communications Tech), is the second leading scorer (12.8 ppg,) and leading rebounder (7.4 rpg.) on the 2012-13 Temple squad.

In the past four seasons Temple has had six student-athletes play on the team following completion of their undergraduate studies.  Besides DiLeo ('11) and O'Brien (a 2011 graduate of Boston U), Randall joins former Owls Micheal Eric ('11), Dutch Gaitley (2010-11 team, a 2009 graduate of Monmouth U) and Luis Guzman ('09) as TU players who also earned degrees while still having eligibility remaining.

Temple (10-2) next plays at #6/6 Kansas (11-1) Sunday.  The game, which tips at 4:30 pm ET, will be nationally televised by CBS.
