Will Kellar's Fifth-Place Finish Leads Men's Cross Country at Leopard Invitational

10.19.13 | Men's Cross Country

EASTON, Pa. - Senior Will Kellar placed fifth among 143 runners to lead Temple men's cross country at the Leopard Invitational hosted by Lafayette University. Kellar's performance helped the Owls place seventh among 12 teams at the meet, which was the last for Temple before the American Athletic Conference Championships, set for Nov. 2.

"All the guys were much improved from two weeks ago," said James Snyder, Temple's assistant coach in charge of the distance runners. "We talked about getting out hard and asserting ourselves, and we had a great pack through the mile. Will finished 10 spots better than last year which was really encouraging. Ryan ran faster in this meet, Owen ran faster, and across the board we saw consistent improvement all the way through. We're definitely heading in the right direction."

Kellar averaged a pace of 5:09 for the five-mile race, finishing in 25:45.38. Four other Owls finished in the top 80, led by Owen Glatts in 56th (27:30.87) and Ryan DeBarberie in 65th (27:46.03).

"This race was a smaller field than our last one and was similar to what we'll see in two weeks," said Snyder, "so we wanted to have that intimate setting that mirrors what we'll be seeing at the conference meet. It was a much more difficult course than Lehigh, and we performed head and shoulders above where we were two weeks ago. We're showing what we are as a program heading into the bigger meets."
