KINGSTON, R.I.— Day Two of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships picked up Sunday at Rhode Island's Mackal Field House. In the concluding day, Temple's men's squad improved Saturday's 11th place standing, as several of its competitors scored points in their respective events The Owls racked up 34 points through 20 scored events to place eighth out of 14 schools. Charlotte, who racked up 190.5 points through the two-day meet, was named the 2013 A-10 Champion.
In the 3000m race sophomore Matthew Kacyon broke TU's record for fastest finish time in the event to score four points for the Owls, as he ran the race in a personal best time of 8:32.06 to finish first in his heat and fifth overall.
In the same event, freshman Alex Izewski turned in a solid finish time as well, placing fifth in his heat and sixth overall (8:32.60) to give TU another three points.
Sophomore Lionel Wilson, senior Damian Myers, junior Gabriel Pickett, and junior Carlton Stafford formed Temple's 4x400 meter relay squad, which came away with a second place finish in their heat and fifth place overall (3:23.96) to pick up four points for Owls.
The field events saw sophomore Darryl McDuffie earning five points with his fourth place finish in the high jump (1.99m).
In the triple jump, Stafford placed first in his heat and sixth overall with a personal best jump of 14.08m to claim three points for the Owls, while Pickett finished tied for second in his heat and finished third among all participants with a personal best jump (15.15m), to snag six more team points for his team. Sophomore Derek Holland finished the triple jump in ninth place (13.46m).
In his first A-10 Championships, freshman Steven Flynn finished sixth in his heat and 15th overall in the one mile run (4:25.65) while fellow Owl, sophomore Cullen Davis placed 10th in his heat and 17th overall (4:26.31).
The Owls will travel to Boston University for a three-day competition in the IC4A Championships (March 1-3).
