Baseball Welcomes Penn State and Chicago State To Skip Wilson Field This Weekend

AMBLER, Pa.— Temple (4-9) will kick off a weekend set against a pair of teams this weekend at Skip Wilson Field, as Penn State will visit Ambler on Saturday for a doubleheader before Chicago State rolls in for Sunday's 12:00 p.m. opening pitch. The Owls are looking to put together a strong weekend, as this one marks the last one before entering Atlantic 10 Conference play next weekend. TU is coming off Wednesday's offensive explosion, in which it scored 10 runs on a season-high 14 hits in its home-opener against Lafayette.
Sophomore LHP Patrick Peterson will start the first game for the Owls today, marking his fourth start of the season. He will be in search of his first victory of the year. Twin brother RHP Eric Peterson is slated to pitch the second game of the doubleheader. Eric is making his second start on the season after being called out of the bullpen three times. Currently, he leads the pitching staff with a 2-0 record.
Senior Henry Knabe enters into the weekend owning a .409 batting average out of the cleanup spot to lead the team in hitting. His 18 hits is tied for the team-most with sophomore Nick Lustrino, who has reached base in all 13 games while batting .391 on the year. Senior Jordan Queja has also gotten on base every game so far this season, bringing his overall streak to 17-straight games, going back to last year.
ABOUT PENN STATE…
Penn State (5-9) comes to Temple after taking two of three last weekend against Houston Baptist. The Nittany Lions' offense was consistent through the entire weekend, as they scored eight runs in each of the three games last weekend. PSU is led by sophomore Taylor Skerpon, who holds the team lead in batting average (.370) and RBIs (10). Redshirt junior Steve Snyder is second on the team in batting average (.339) and first in runs scored (10).
Steven Hill will take the ball for the Nittany Lions in game one today. So far, the senior right-hander is 1-3 and owns a 4.44 ERA. Batters are hitting .295 against him. T.J. Jann will make his first start of the season for PSU. Holding a 4.76 ERA and a 1-1 record, the opposition is batting .100 through 5.2 innings. Chicago State will take the field against Temple on Sunday after playing against Big 5 opponents, Villanova and La Salle, on Friday and Saturday.

The Nittany Lions own a commanding lead with a record of 32-51-1 over the Owls. Last game between the opponents was in 2009 when the Owls lost 7-4.
ABOUT CHICAGO STATE…
The Cougars enter the weekend 1-12 on the year and on a three-game losing streak. Jake Peltz is batting .458 with 11 hits and nine walks, while Mattingly Romanin is also a .400-hitter with a team-high 20 hits through the first 13 games. Pitcher James Tucker is the only Cougar on the staff with a win thus far. In seven appearances, which includes one start, his ERA stands at a 4.96 and opposing hitters are batting .338 against him.
