Women's Gymnastics' Season-High Team Score Not Enough To Outdo William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Temple Women's Gymnastics fell to William & Mary on Sunday, despite putting up its highest team total on the year, 191.650.  The score was not good enough to outdo The Tribe, who posted a 194.575.  The Owls were swept by William &  Mary in each event overall as a team.

Senior Jean Alban competed in all four events to score an all-around score of 38.250 which was .125 points higher than teammate Brittanie DeMeno.  The gymnasts finished fourth and fifth overall in the all-around competition respectively.   DeMeno posted her career high in high bars scoring a 9.550 on her impressive routine. 

Alban led the Owls on beam with a score of 9.725 with help from teammates Brittanie DeMeno (9.650) and Taylor Rakus (9.575) to contribute to Temple's team score of 47.475 on the beam.

Sophomore Natali Ruzich and junior Heather Zaniewski posted a team leading 9.750 in high bars which was a career best for Ruzich and Zaniewski.  The two teammates finished fifth on the apparatus overall.  The Owls lost on the high bars to William and Mary, 48.925-48.300.

Stephanie Verry led TU on vault and floor with her impressive performances scoring 9.625 and 9.775 respectively.  Verry finished third overall on the floor exercise which was the highest individual performance for the Owls on the day.  Verry was followed by sophomore Natali Ruzich's 9.600 to give the Owls a team score of 47.750 which was outperformed by The Tribe's score of 48.550.

Sophomore Alexis Arena posted her career high score after her solid routine on the floor exercise to give her a score of 9.700 that helped Temple post 48.125 points on the apparatus. 

William and Mary won each individual routine on each apparatus with their overall leader Jessica Pritchard posting a team high 39.000 in all-around to help the Tribe win the meet.

Temple, now (4-22), will look to bounce back at next week's ECAC Championships at Cornel l University.   Competition, which  is set to begin at Noon on Saturday, March 23.
