Baseball Opens Conference Play At Home With Saint Joseph's

AMBLER, Pa. – Temple, now, 7-9, will return home to Skip Wilson Field to play an afternoon game against conference opponent, Saint Joseph's. The Owls enter Atlantic 10 play on a season-long four game winning streak after beating Lehigh on Wednesday.
Temple will look to keep their strong pitching going after they have allowed an average of 3.75 runs per game during the winning streak. Scheduled to pitch this weekend are sophomore LHP Patrick Peterson, twin brother Eric Peterson, and junior Preston Hill. Patrick Peterson is coming off his first win of the season in his last start.
Eric Peterson is coming off his season long in innings pitched during his last start where he pitched 7.0 innings only allowing two earned runs. The right hander is looking record his third victory of 2013. Teammate Preston Hill (0-1) is still looking to win his first game of the season.
The offense will look to extend their winning streak as they have recorded 28 runs during the four game stretch. Senior third baseman Henry Knabe (.411) is leading the team in batting average and hits (23). Sophomore Nick Lustrino is hitting .379 on the year and has reached base safely in every game this season. Lustrino will look to continue his streak from the plate during the weekend series.
First baseman Derek Peterson leads the Owls in homeruns (2) and RBIs (15) batting out of the cleanup position. Peterson has started all 16 games for TU.
St. Joe's enters the weekend set owning an 8-11 record overall. The Hawks are coming into the game against the Owls winning their last two games against Wagner.
SJU has two pitchers that have started five games on the season. Senior Kyle Millen leads the team in wins with two and owns a 3.56 ERA. Junior Jordan Carter has recorded a 4.50 ERA through 24.0 innings pitched this season and is 1-1.
Out of the bullpen, junior Steven Schuler has only allowed one run in 12.0 innings of work. Closer Jimmy Yacabonis has a 0.93 ERA while striking out 18 batters and recording three saves.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Hawks are led by senior Anthony Cirillo who owns a .360 batting average and is ranked second in RBIs with 10. They are also supported by sophomore Stefan Kancylarz who has 17 hits on the season and one homerun.
