Holland Leads Men's T&F At Danny Curran Invite

CHESTER, Pa.— Temple Track & Field took part at the Danny Curran Invitational on Friday at Widener University. Sophomore Derek Holland was the standout for the Owls' men's side, as he took first place in the triple jump with his mark of 13.71 meters. Junior Ryan Maccie and freshman Kyle Davis continued a strong day in field events for Temple, as Davis' throw in the discus went 39.88 meters for the sixth furthest spotting, while Maccie's mark was the longest in his heat and eighth farthest overall (39.00m).
In the other jump events, freshman Jamal Williams was second in the long jump with his leap of 6.49 meters and Holland had the sixth best marking in the high jump at 6.04 meters.
Sophomore Justin Berg had a strong toss in the hammer throw, as he placed as the runner-up in the event with his mark of 52.20 meters, while Elan Jackson placed 10th in the event (34.86m).
Jackson took part in two other events, including the shot put, where he came away with the 10th longest throw at 11.81 meters. Later on in the afternoon, he placed 24th in the discus throw (20.86m).
Also competing in throw events, freshman Michael Deitzler was fifth in the javelin throw (58.58 meters).
Combining for an eighth place finish in the 4x400m relay, Tyreece Clayton, Holland, Alex Izegbu and Nathan Emmanuel totaled a time of 3:32.39 in the event.
Clayton comoeted in the 200 meter dash, where he was 22nd overall (23.55) before taking a 24th place finish in the 400 dash, which he completed in 53.06.
From here, Temple will begin preparing for the Sam Howell Invitational held at Princeton April 4-5.
