RESULTS: Miami Alumni Invite| Mason Spring Games
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Coming off a strong showing last weekend at Ramapo College, the Temple men's track and field team went up against a national field of competition at the Miami Alumni Invitational on Saturday. Sophomore Justin Berg was the standout for the Owls on this day, as he came away with the event title in the hammer throw with his toss that went 52.95 meters.
While Berg shined for the team in Miami, sophomore Matt Kacyon participated in the Mason Spring Games at George Mason on Saturday evening, where he ran the 3000 meter Steeplechase in a first place time of 9:08.98
Overall, it was a satisfying day for the Temple men's side, who now has just two more meets before the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships.
The Owls were heavily represented in the Top 10 of the 400 meter dash, as Alan Harding placed s TU's fastest runner with a third place time of 48.31. Lionel Wilson followed closely and was just hundreths of seconds off Harding's time (48.54) or fourth place overall. Carlton Stafford rounded out the event or the Owls, as he crossed the finish line in 49.35 to take eighth place in the 400 meter dash, while junior Gabe Pickett was the 11th runner to cross the finish line of the 100 meter dash with his time of 10.98.
Pickett had a strong showing in the triple jump, where he placed as the event runner-up with a mark of 15.36 meters, which just outdid his teammate Derek Holland, who placed third with his triple jump of 15.18 meters. Stafford also competed in the event, taking 10th place (14.22 meters).
Temple's 4x100 meter relay squad, comprised of Stafford, Pickett, Damian Myers and Darryl McDuffie, combined for a fourth place time of 41.78, while the 4x400 meter relay, made up of Harding, Wilson, Stafford and Pickett, came in third with a time of 3:14.19
In other field events, freshman Jamal Williams claimed eighth place with his mark of 6.67 meters in the long jump, which was longer than teammate Derek Holland, who took 16th overall with a distance of 6.09 meters.
Temple will head to Widener next weekend for a two-day meet, which will be its final tune-up for the Penn Relays.
