CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Coming off a strong showing last weekend at Ramapo College, the Temple women's track and field team went up against a national field of competition at the Miami Alumni Invitational on Saturday. In her first outdoor meet of the season, sophomore Margo Britton demonstrated her dominance in the throw events with a first place mark of 14.84 meters in the hot put before placing as the runner-up in the discus throw (46.48m).
Junior Ambrosia Iwugo took part in multiple events. In the 400 meter dash, she was the third-fastest to cross the finish line with her time of 55.61, ahead of Michelle Davis Timothy, who was close behind her in sixth place, as she completed the race in 56.47.
Iwugo was a member of the Owls' 4x100 meter relay team, who claimed sixth place with its time of 46.39 with the help of junior Isatta Kenneh, Demeshia Davis and Shanae Bailey.
Temple's 4x400 meter relay had a better showing, as it combined with a third place time of 3:45.87 behind combined times from Iwugo, Smith, Davis Timothy and senior Tessa West.
Senior Jade Wilson, who also represented Temple in multiple events, took sixth place in the 100 meter hurdles, as she rushed for a time of 14.51, which was faster than sophomore Kiersten LaRoche (15.54). Wilson later earned a seventh place ranking for her time o 1:01.91 in the 400 meter hurdles, where West followed her less than a second later (1:02.45).
In the 800 meter run, senior Tonney Smith placed eighth, as she registered a time of 2:11.49.
Temple will head to Widener next weekend for a two-day meet, which will be its final tune-up for the Penn Relays.
