Wilson And Stafford Take First Place Finishes At Widener Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. – Lionel Wilson and Carlton Stafford took top finishes in events in the second day of the Widener Invitational. Wilson came away as the top-finisher in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.91 and Stafford tied Johns Hopkins' Brendan Evans for a first place long jump mark of 6.47 meters.

Temple was heavily represented in the 200 meter dash and in the javelin throw. Wilson finished as the runner-up in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.09, which was ahead of Stafford in third (22.11) and Alan Harding in fifth (22.80). Michael Deitzler placed as TU's top-finisher in the javelin throw with a fifth place mark of 53.60 meters. Dimitri Drossopoulos's throw (52.63 m) was slightly short of that for sixth, while Sean Mcneney's throw of 51.83 meters earned him seventh place.

Freshman Jamal Williams placed just behind Stafford in the long jump with his landing spot of 16.38 meters. Kevin Caporiccio's mark of 1.85 meters in the high jump earned him the runner-up for the event title.

Also having a solid day in the meet, Tyreece Clayton (11.41) and Williams (11.50) placed eighth and 14th, respectively, in the 100 meter dash, while senior Will Kellar took eighth in the 800 meter run (1:55.94) and freshman Blair Alston finished seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (57.19).

Next up for Temple is the 119th Penn Relays at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Competition opens on Thursday.
