Owls' Men's Tennis Sweeps Rider, 7-0

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's tennis team ended the regular-season on a strong note, defeating visiting Rider 7-0 on Monday afternoon at the TU Pavilion. The Owls will head to the Atlantic 10 Championship this week to contend for a conference title.
TU had a 1-0 lead before play even began as the Broncs could only field five players, therefore giving the host team a singles point by forfeit. The Cherry & White quickly made it 2-0, winning the doubles point easily. Hicham Belkssir and Hernan Vasconez picked up an 8-1 win at No. 1 and Santiago Canete and Nicolas Paulus won 8-0 at No. 2.
In singles play, the Owls each won by straight sets on the way to the shutout victory. Kristian Marquart did not drop a set in his 6-0, 6-0 win at the first flight, while Sam Rundle lost just once in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5. Also winning were Canete, Paulus, Belkssir and Maros Januvka.
“The guys came out really strong today in doubles, and continued the fast pace in singles play,” said head coach Steve Mauro. “This was a good way to end the season and I believe the team is ready to make a run at the A-10 Tournament.”
Temple is 7-11 overall.
