PHILADELPHIA – Temple Basketball: Above the Rim has been nominated for a College Sports Media Award for the second consecutive year. The Temple Athletics' behind-the-scenes television series was named a finalist in the category of “Best Program – Series”, but this year finds the show in a new division. Above the Rim will compete in the Regional/Local Networks division, a year after winning the award for the Best Program – Series in college athletics.
The awards are presented by the Sports Video Group and the National Association of the Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Winners will be selected by a panel of judges and announced at the College Sports Video Summit in Atlanta, GA on May 29.
“This is a tribute to the quality of work, effort and dedication put forth by 20/20 Visual Media,” said Larry Dougherty, Temple University's Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications. “It my mind this is clearly the best college sports show on television, and what is even more special is that it is Temple Made.”
Above the Rim airs throughout the basketball season on Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia. The 10 episode series is produced by 20/20 Visual Media, a production company founded by two Temple alumni. The show told the behind-the-scenes stories of the Owls players and coaches, as they worked through the season to reach 24 wins and their sixth straight NCAA tournament.
“We are so happy to be able to tell the stories of the Temple Owls”, said Rob Czyzewicz, a Co-Owner of 20/20 Visual Media and Executive Producer of Above the Rim. “It means a lot to us that we get to produce a show that helps put Temple Athletics on a national platform, and we are very humbled that the Sports Video Group has recognized the program for a second straight year”.
This is the fifth year for the College Sports Media Awards. Since it began, the awards have recognized the best in college sports productions nationwide, in 16 different categories ranging from local, to regional, to network productions.
