6.5.13 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA - Former Plymouth Whitemarsh standout Jaylen Bond, who played the last two seasons at the Univeristy of Texas, has signed a men's basketball scholarship agreement to attend Temple University. The Longhorn transfer will sit out the 2013-14 season per NCAA rules and have two years of eligibility remaining starting with the 2014-15 season.
“Jaylen is an excellent addition to the Temple Basketball program," said Temple head coach Fran Dunphy. "He is a fine young man from a good family. We are looking forward to tremendous things from him during his Temple career.”
The 6-7, 225-pound forward played in 54 games at Texas, starting seven times. He averaged 3.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 13.8 minutes while shooting 50.7 percent (73-144) from the field. He scored in double figures three times with career highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Nicholls State (12/13/11). He followed that game with a 12-point, 8-rebound effort in a 77-65 win over Temple in Austin (12/17/11).
At Plymouth Whitemarsh he averaged 19 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists as a senior. Bond's 1,608 career points rank second on Plymouth Whitemarsh's all-time list behind 2005 graduate Thomas Young's 1,641 points.
