Distance Runner Matt Kacyon Named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team

NEW ORLEANS - Rising junior Matt Kacyon, a distance runner for Temple's men's cross country and track & field teams, has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team for the 2012-13 school year.
Kacyon has a 3.63 GPA as a film and media arts major at Temple. His strong 2013 outdoor season culminated in being selected to run the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA East Region Preliminary in May. His fastest time of the season (8:58.14) earned him third place at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships and ranked 29th in the East Region. At the 2013 A-10 Indoor Championships, Kacyon broke Temple's record for fastest finish time in the event to score four points for the Owls, as he ran the race in a personal-best time of 8:32.06 to finish first in his heat and fifth overall.
Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 448 men from 149 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined efforts in competition and in the classroom. To qualify for the team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
