PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University men's basketball team officially kick-started its European schedule with its first NCAA-sanctioned practice today at its Pearson-McGonigle practice facility. It is the first of 10 NCAA-sanctioned practices allowable for the Owls prior to its departure on Aug. 14 for Paris.
"I've had the opportunity two other times to take teams (while head coach at Penn) to Italy and Spain," said Temple head coach Fran Dunphy. "I don't know if they appreciate it as much today as they will five years from now, 10 years from now. I think the opportunity to get together as a basketball group is equally as important as the educational and cultural piece. Learning a new language for a few weeks, a few days and learning a new culture. It's been fun to put it all together and I'm sure it will be a great trip for us in many, many ways."
Temple, which is one of eight teams to compete in the last six NCAA Tournaments, is coming off a 24-10 season that culminated in a loss to top-seed Indiana, 58-52, in the third round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Eight players return from that squad including junior starters Will Cummings and Anthony Lee.
Season ticket deposits are currently being taken by the Temple Ticket Sales Office at 215-204-8499. Season tickets will officially go on sale later this summer.
