PARIS -- What a difference a day makes.
One day following a 82-52 loss at the hands of Evreux, the Temple men's basketball team bounced back and took Boulogne, a team from the same French Pro B Division, to overtime before falling in the final seconds, 91-89, Friday at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin.
It was a Boulogne team that defeated Alabama, 100-70, on Friday.
"I think we were much more focused. We were not trying to do quite as much tonight as we did last night," said Temple coach Fran Dunphy. "We were not as good defensively last night as we were tonight. I think it just comes down to focus and we were more ready to play."
Sophomore guard Quenton DeCosey led the Owls with 24 points, while draining seven of 14 three-point attempts. He also added three assists and three steals.
Dalton Pepper, the lone senior on the squad, added 15 points, with 10 of his point coming in the fourth quarter. He connected on two huge treys (on four attempts) in that frame while adding an assist and steal.
"We had a lot of really good efforts tonight," Dunphy said. "Dalton and Quenton were two of the guys that did a great job. Anthony Lee had some great rebounds and Will Cummings hit some tough shots late in the game and made a couple of really difficult plays for us. Daniel Dingle also was strong for us.
We are going to need everybody. We are going to need to be as focused as we can be and need all of our guys to contribute if we are going to be the best that we can be."
Cummings tallied 13 points, including calmly knocking down two free throws to tie the game in the final minute of regulation despite French fans blowing horns. He also added a team-high seven assists and five steals.
Dingle also topped double figures, posting a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Lee contributed nine points and nine rebounds while sophomore Devontae Watson and freshman Mark Williams each added seven rebounds.
Boulogne was led by game MVP Mickael Var, who led all scorers with 30 points, including seven of his team's 10 overtime points.
Temple is off Monday, travelling to Southern France for stops in Nice and Monaco. The Owls next play on Monday when they scrimmage Primavera Mirandola in Mantova, Italy. The time of that scrimmage has been moved to 1:30 pm EST.
