Men's Tennis Opens 2013 Fall Play at Navy Invitational Against St. Bonaventure

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Temple men's tennis team got the 2013 fall season underway with its play at the Navy Invitational on September 6. The Owls squared off against St. Bonaventure to open non-scoring flighted play on Friday. The team swept the two doubles matches that were played, while TU won five of six singles bouts.
Sophomores Santiago Canete and Nicolas Paulus paired up to defeat their opponents at the second flight, 8-5, while classmate Sam Rundle and junior Hernan Vasconez defeated their foes at the third flight by the same score.
In singles action, Paulus, Canete, sophomore Hicham Belkssir and sophomore Maros Januvka each won in straight sets. Paulus was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the third flight and Canete won 6-2, 6-1 at number four. Belkssir picked up a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 6 and Januvka was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at the seventh flight. Rundle was the other singles winner for Temple, earning a super tiebreaker victory at the fifth flight, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-3).
Temple will face Delaware at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, before finishing the weekend playing the host Navy at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 8.
