BRIDGEPORT, Conn.  – Temple women's basketball fell to top-ranked Connecticut, 80-36, in American Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon before a soldout crowd of 9,274 fans at Webster Bank Arena.

The Owls fell to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference, while the Huskies improved to 17-0 overall and 5-0 in the league.

In the first half, the score was close over the first 10 minutes of action.  The Owls led 6-5 before the Huskies used a 13-4 run to take a 10-point lead, 26-16 with 8:20 remaining in the stanza. Connecticut held the Owls scoreless over the last four minutes of action while scoring seven straight points for a 39-22 advantage at intermission.

In the second half, the Huskies held TU to just 14 points while racking up the 44-point win.

"Coming into this game, we knew that in order to even be in the game, we needed to do almost everything right. I felt like our approach to the start of the game was really good. I felt like we competed for the first 15 minutes of the basketball game. The only thing is it's a 40 minute game," said Temple head coach Tonya Cardoza." I would have loved to see us compete for 40 minutes."

Sophomore Erica Covile (Detroit, Mich.) led the Owls with 13 points, eight in the second half alone. In her first collegiate start, freshman center Taylor Robinson (Saint Louis, Mo.) netted a career-high eight points.

Four Husky starters scored double figures, led by Bria Hartley's 19 points.  Moriah Jefferson had 13 points.  Kiah Stokes came off the bench for a game-high 18 rebounds.

Overall, Temple out-rebounded UConn, 42-39. The Huskies shot 52 percent (33-64) from the field, compared to Temple's 21 percent (13-61).  UConn scored 27 points off turnovers, compared to TU's eight.  The Owls committed 27 turnovers while forcing just 12.

Temple returns home to Philadelphia on Tuesday, Jan. 14 for its annual School Day game.  The Owls host SMU at Noon in the Liacouras Center.  The American Digital Network will televise the game live online.
