THIS WEEK
Temple concludes its three-home homestand  against No. 1 Connecticut on Tuesday, Jan. 28, and the Owls want to PACK THE HOUSE!  Tip-off at McGonigle Hall is set for 7 p.m.  

Tickets are as low as $10. Temple students are FREE with ID cards.

SNY and ESPN3 will televise the game live with Eric Frede calling the action, Meg Culmo providing color analysis, and Kerith Burke reporting from the sidelines.

The Owls then embark on their second-longest trip of the season, heading to Texas.  TU faces SMU?on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Moody Coliseum at 3:30 p.m. CT/4:30 p.m. ET.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
The Owls, under sixth-year head coach Tonya Cardoza, stand 10-9 overall and 4-4 in American Athletic Conference play after a 74-68 loss to Rutgers on Jan. 25.

After 19 games, freshman Feyonda Fitzgerald (Norfolk, Va.) is the Owls' leading scorer with 13.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Senior Natasha Thames (Port Huron, Mich.) follows with 11.5 ppg and a team-best 8.5 rpg.  Senior Shi-Heria Shipp (Salisbury, N.C.) adds 9.5 ppg and 6.2 rpg.  Junior Tyonna Williams (Fort Washington, Md.) adds 9.5 points and a Conference-best .882 shooting from the free throw line.  Sophomore Erica Covile (Detroit, Mich.) averages 9.3 ppg and 6.1 rpg.   

SCOUTING UCONN
The No. 1 nationally ranked Huskies, under the guidance of 29th-year head coach Geno Auriemma, stand a perfect 21-0 overall and 8-0 in American play after an 81-53 win over USF on Jan. 26.  

Sophomore forward Breanna Stewart is the Huskies' top scorer with 18.7 ppg and 8.0 rpg.  Senior guard Bria Hartley follows with 15.6 ppg and 3.5 rpg.  The Huskies out-score their opponents by 35.8 points per game.

SERIES VS. HUSKIES
Temple and Connecticut are tied in series action, 2-2, since the teams first met in 1981.  Saturday's contest is their second in American Athletic Conference play in 17 days.  

On Jan. 11 in Bridgeport, Conn., top-ranked  UConn claimed a 80-36 win before a soldout crowd of 9,274 fans at Webster Bank Arena.

Sophomore Erica Covile led the Owls with 13 points. Four Husky starters scored in double figures, led by Bria Hartley's 19 points.  Moriah Jefferson had 13 points.  Kiah Stokes came off the bench for a game-high 18 rebounds.

The Owls won the first two games of the series, a 71-68 win at McGonigle Hall (1/16/81) and a 62-49 decision in Storrs (1/16/82).

TU's sole loss came during the NCAA?Second Round in Norfolk, Va., on March 23, 2010, as No. 8 seed Temple fell to No. 1 seed Connecticut, 90-39. The Huskies went on to win the national championship that season.

UCONN CONNECTIONS
Temple head coach Tonya Cardoza spent 14 seasons as an assistant coach at Connecticut under Geno Auriemma. During her tenure in Storrs, Cardoza was a part of five national championships. She worked primarily with the guards, producing numerous All-America performers, including WNBA?stars Sue Bird, Renee Montgomery, and Diana Taurasi.

Assistant coach Willnett Crockett is a 2006 Connecticut alumna.  She helped the Huskies to two BIG EAST regular-season titles, two BIG EAST Tournament titles, and two National Championships. She was also a part of the Division I-record 70-game winning streak from 2001-03.

Director of Operations Stacey Nasser graduated from UConn in 2008. She served as the Huskies' manager for four seasons and followed Cardoza to Temple as a graduate extern in 2008 before being promoted to her current position in 2010.

Athletic communications' Cathy Bongiovi promoted Connecticut women's basketball in 1990-91 during the team's inaugural Final Four appearance.
