Women’s Basketball Drops 64-51 Decision at USF

TAMPA, Fla. – Temple women's basketball lost its first American Athletic Conference game on the road on Tuesday evening with a 64-51 loss USF at the Sun Dome.
The Owls fell to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while the Bulls improved to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in the league.
In the first half, TU went ahead 4-0 but that proved to be the Owls' biggest lead of the game. USF utilized a 14-2 run to go ahead by nine, 21-12 with 7:44 to go in the stanza. The Bulls held an eight-point edge at intermission, 36-28.
Temple opened the second half with an 11-4 run to come within three, 40-37. USF responded with a 15-3 run to go ahead, 55-40, and never looked back.
Freshman Feyonda Fitzgerald (Norfolk, Va.) paced the Owls with 17 points. Senior Natasha Thames (Port Huron, Mich.) added her third double-double of the season with 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Senior Shi-Heria Shipp (Salisbury, N.C.) had 10 points.
Alisia Jenkins led USF with a double-double of 18 points and 12 boards. Inga Orekhova was the only other Bull in double digits with 10 points.
Overall, USF out-rebounded Temple, 47-36. Both teams shot a dismal 36 percent (20-55) from the field. USF's bench out-scored TU's bench, 25-3. The Bulls also took advantage of second opportunities, scoring 15 second-chance points to the Owls' six.
Temple travels to No. 1 Connecticut on Saturday, Jan. 11. The teams will play at Noon at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn. SNY will televise the game live.
