UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Junior Margo Britton and senior Anna Pavone combined for three top 10 finishes for Temple women's track and field at the Penn State National Invitational Open over the two-day meet from Jan. 31-Feb. 1.

On Friday, Britton's ECAC-qualifying throw of 17.73m (58-02.00) earned her sixth place, and on Saturday she took fourth in the shot put with a mark of 14.62m (47-11.75).

Pavone also earned a top 10 finish for the Owls, placing eighth in the mile run in 5:02.70.

While the rest of Temple's competitors' placings were lower, head coach Eric Mobley said it was reflection more so of the level of competition and not of the effort put forth by the Owls.

"This was the best competition we've faced so far," said Mobley, "but a lot of our athletes got personal bests or close to it. The placements might not show it, but everyone went out and competed really well against very strong competition, and that's all you can ask for. They didn't back down, they just went out and tried to do their best."

Sophomore Jamila Janneh had a solid showing in the high jump, placing 11th with a mark of 1.61m (5-03.25), just short of her personal-best.

Freshman Jimmia McCluskey took 13th in the long jump (5.50m).

In the 60m hurdles prelims, freshman Simone Brownlee ran a personal-best 9.14.

Next weekend will take the Owls to the Armory Collegiate Invitational at the 168th Street Armory in New York, where they will compete on Feb. 7-8.
