Three Men's Basketball Players Honored by Philadelphia Big 5

PHILADELPHIA - Three Temple men's basketball players will be honored at the annual Philadelphia Big 5 Awards Banquet to be held at the Palestra on Monday, April 14.
Senior guard Dalton Pepper was named to the second team while also earning the city league's top free throw shooter award. Junior guard Will Cummings was also named to the second team and redshirt junior Jimmy McDonnell was recognized as the Big 5's Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Pepper, who became the first Temple player to make a three-pointer in every game of a season, led the Owls in scoring at 17.5 points, three-pointers made (84) and percentage (.375) per game and minutes played (1171, 37.5 ppg.). He also ranked second in assists (74) and steals (32).
The Levittown, PA native (Pennsbury HS) made 61 of 70 attempts from the free throw line for an 87.1 percentage to lead all Big 5 Players. The Owls' lone senior also had the third best scoring improvement along all Division I players, increasing his average 14.6 ppg. from his junior to senior season.
Cummings, another Temple player to see significant improvement in his offensive numbers from the previous season, ranked second on the squad in scoring (16.8 ppg,), while leading the team in assists (132) and steals 43). The Jacksonville, FL native (Providence School) also scored in double figures in 27 of 29 games played, including the final 16 of the season.
McDonnell, who also was named the American Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year, earned a 3.63 cumulative grade point average as a civil engineering major while playing in 24 games, six starts, and setting career highs in points (10 vs. USF, Jan. 9) and rebounds (6 at Louisville, Feb. 27). On track to graduate in May, the Jackson, NJ native (Jackson Memorial HS) plans to pursue a master's in either civil engineering or engineering management.
