Baseball Defeated by Monmouth 7-4 in Extra Innings

AMBLER, Pa. – Temple baseball was defeated by Monmouth 7-4 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. Temple falls to 12-24 while Monmouth improves to 14-21 with a series sweep this weekend.
Monmouth trailed 4-1 coming into the ninth inning, but scored three runs off closer Zach Batchelor to tie the game. The Hawks scored three runs again the next inning off Tim McCarthy to win the game.
Temple led the game from the third to eighth inning when they scored the first run of the game in the third. Daniel Dragos tripled to right center to lead off the inning. Bobby Heitzman hit a sacrifice fly to left field in the next at-bat to knock in Dragos.
The Owls added two more runs in the next inning. Derek Peterson started the inning with a double to right field and went to third on a grounder to second base by Michael D'Acunti. Robert Amaro then doubled to left field to allow Peterson to jog in home for the first run. Frank D'Agostino had the third extra-base hit for the Owls in the inning with a triple to right field that allowed Amaro to score.
Monmouth scored its first run of the game off a wild pitch by starting pitcher Ryan Kuehn in the fifth inning. Kuehn pitched six innings with only one walk, one run and one walk given up with two strikeouts.
The last run for Temple came in the eighth inning. Jimmy Kerrigan got on base with a single through the left side of the infield. D'Acunti then singled to right field. Amaro made it three singles in the inning with one to right field that gave enough time for Kerrigan to score from second base.
Preston Hill and Connor Staskey each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Four Temple players had two hits while the team had 11 hits overall.
Temple will continue non-conference action with a game at Villanova on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.
