PRINCETON, N.J. - With a performance that will earn him a spot at the NCAA East Regional, junior Matt Kacyon took third place in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on day one of the IC4A Championships for Temple men's track & field. Kacyon's time of 8:51.83 shattered his former personal best by exactly 10 seconds.
Kacyon's third-place finish earned six team points for the Owls, who have three individuals and one relay team competing this weekend. Kacyon's time ranks among the top 20 in the region, and he has earned himself a spot at the NCAA East Region Preliminary May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla.
In Temple's other scheduled event for day one, the 10,000m run, Alex Izewski was forced to withdraw due to injury.
The men's 4x100 meter relay team will race on Saturday, as will senior Will Kellar in the 800m run. Senior Gabe Pickett will compete in the triple jump on Sunday.
