Fencing Wraps Up January NAC; Ibrahim Takes Eighth in Junior Women's Epee

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Four days of individual competition against many of the best fencers in the nation yielded some strong results for Temple fencing, highlighted by an eighth-place finish for freshman Safa Ibrahim in junior women's epee. The Owls competed in six total events at the January North American Cup (NAC), held Jan. 9-12 at the Salt Palace Convention Center.

Ibrahim competed on Jan. 9 in junior women's epee, placing eighth out of 111 competitors. She started out going 4-2 in the pool round before advancing to the finals later in the day. It was Ibrahim's second appearance in a NAC final since joining the Owls, as she took second place of 180 fencers at the November NAC in junior women's epee.

On Jan. 10, the Owls competed in both Division I women's sabre and junior women's foil. Junior Gloria Aguilar was the top finisher in Division I women's sabre, placing 52nd out of 97 competitors. Senior Lauren Rangel-Friedman placed 69th and sophomore Victoria Suber was right behind in 70th.

Sophomore Miranda Litzinger was Temple's top finisher in junior women's foil, placing 48th among 112 fencers. Freshman Becca Stanford placed 63rd.

On Sunday, junior Jessica Hall took 53rd of 139 fencers in Division I women's epee. Sophomore Rachael Clark was close behind, placing 56th.

Stanford fared well in Division I women's foil on Monday, placing 35th among 109 competitors. Litzinger placed 43rd and junior Demi Antipas finished 56th.

In the final event of the meet for Temple on Monday, junior women's sabre, Suber competed for a second time and placed 60th.
