Four First-Place Finishes Highlight a Successful Last Day at Patriot Games for Track and Field

FAIRFAX, VA. - Temple's track and field team saw a lot of success on the last day of the Patriot Games, including four first-place finishes, three personal-best marks, and multiple other top-10 performances.
"It was an extremely long day of competition today for our athletes," said head coach Elvis Forde. "I am very proud of the way they went out and put their hearts out there. The effort that they showed today was very impressive."Â
Junior Jamila Janneh recorded two first-place finishes on the day, one in the triple jump (11.91m) and the other in the high jump with a personal-best mark of 1.66m.Â
Another first-place finish was earned by Temple's 4x400m relay team made up of sophomores Bionca St. Fleur and Kenya Gaston, junior Demeshia Davis and senior Hollis Coleman with a time of 3:57.88. In her first competition with the Owls, junior Blanca Fernandez recorded an impressive first-place time of 5:00.04 in the mile after just joining the team only a few weeks ago.
Senior Kiersten LaRoche carried her success from day one into today with a fifth-place and personal-best time of 8.87 in the 60m hurdles. Freshman Catherine Pinson also recorded a personal best of her own in the 1,000m run with a time of 3:00.41, finishing third.Â
Other notable top-10 performances on the day include senior Jenna Dubrow's second-place finish in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:14.52. Davis finished seventh in both the 200m (25.74) and 400m dash (58.51). Gaston recorded an eighth-place finish in the 400m dash (58.55) and sophomore Rachel Flynn finished sixth in the 800m run with a time of 2:23.70.
In the field events, sophomore Jimmia McCluskey placed fourth (5.37m) and St. Fleur placed eighth (5.15m) in the long jump. Sophomore Simone Chapman finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.16m.Â
"Our athletes are understanding what we are asking of them and it is starting to show," said Forde. "I am looking forward to watching them improve as the season goes on."
The Owls will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Giengengack Invitational in New Haven, Conn.
