Will Cummings Named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - Senior guard Will Cummings was named the American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 15. It marks the first conference Player of the week honor in his career.

The Jacksonville, Fla., native (Providence School) averaged 19 points, 5.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals in two Temple wins that extended the Owls' current conference-best streak to seven victories. 

Cummings led all scorers in both games, tallying 21 points against Cincinnati (Feb. 10) and 17 points versus East Carolina (Feb. 14). Against the Bearcats he also dished five assists and matched his season high with four steals while playing all 40 minutes in the key American contest. In the win over ECU, the Temple co-captain pulled down seven rebounds while distributing six assists and making two steals. He was also 14 for 17 from the foul line in the two games.

For the season, Cummings leads the Owls and ranks among the conference's Top 10 in the following categories: scoring (13.7 ppg/7th), assists (4.1 apg/5th), steals (1.8 spg/2nd), free throw percentage (.778/9th), free throws made (132/1st), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0/2nd) and minutes per game (34.0 mpg/4th). 

Cummings becomes the second Temple player to earn Conference Player of the Week honors this season. Senior guard Jesse Morgan earned the honor on Dec. 29.
