Jenna Dubrow Breaks Her Own 5,000 Meter School Record at Giegengack Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior Jenna Dubrow broke the school record in the 5,000m run for Temple on the first day of the Giengengack Invitational. Dubrow won the event with a new record time of 17:18.85, which is also an ECAC-qualifying mark. The Owls competed in the two-day event at Yale University's Coxe Cage on February 6-7.
Another personal best was set on day one by sophomore Bionca St. Fleur with her third-place time of 25.17 seconds in the 200m dash. Junior Demeshia Davis also had a top-five mark in the event, finishing fourth in a time of 25.36. In the long jump, senior Kiersten LaRoche and sophomore Jimmia McCluskey placed second (5.76m) and fourth (5.58m), respectively. Also on day one, junior Jamila Janneh finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.58m.Â
Four first-place finishes highlighted the second day of the Giengengack Invitational for Temple, including a win by the 4x400m relay team made up of sophomores Kenya Gaston and St. Fleur, senior Hollis Coleman, and Davis. Their personal-best time of 3:49.84 marks the third week in a row the team has secured first place in the event.
In the 60m hurdles, LaRoche finished first and set a new personal-best time of 8.80 seconds. In the same event, sophomore Sydnee Jacques placed sixth in 9.12 seconds. Gaston and Coleman placed first and second in the 400m dash for the Owls in 56.99 and 58.14 seconds, respectively.Â
The triple jump was highlighted by yet another first-place finish by Janneh with a mark of 11.67m. Jacques placed fourth in the event with a 11.31m mark while sophomore Simone Chapman finished seventh with a distance of 10.98m.Â
Other notable finishes on the day for Temple was a sixth-place finish by freshman Catherine Pinson in the mile (5:10.76) and a seventh-place time of 7.90 seconds by Davis in the 60m dash.
"We are going to keep working hard and encourage the most out of our athletes," said head coach Elvis Forde. "Good things will continue to happen for us if we keep building their confidence and stay healthy as a team. I look forward to getting better every weekend and meeting our challenges."
The Owls will compete in the Valentine Invitational on Friday, Feb. 13 in Boston, Mass. This will be the team's final meet before heading to the American Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 27-28.
