Big 5

Cummings, Bond, DeCosey Named All-Philadelphia Big 5

3.23.15 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA - Temple men's basketball was well respresented with the announcement of the Philadelphia Big 5 awards today.

Senior guard Will Cummings was named to the league's first team while juniors Jaylen Bond and Quenton DeCosey garnered second team honors.  Sophomore guard Josh Brown, who has made 59 of his 67 free throw attempts (.887) is the leading free throw percentage shooter.

Cummings, who also was named first team All-American Athletic Conference, has been the leader of Temple's incredible turnaround from a 9-22 season to a 25-10 campaign.  The Owls' co-captain tops the squad in scoring (14.9 ppg), assists (4.2 apg) and steals (1.9 spg) while becoming the 50th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.

Bond, a transfer from Texas, made an immediate impact this season, leading the American Athletic Conference in rebounding (8.2 rpg) while ranking fourth on the team in scoring (7.7 ppg).  His defensive prowess has been attributed as the main reason the Owls have held opponents to 16.8 points per game lower than last season to rank as the second best improvement in the category among all NCAA Division I teams.

DeCosey, who needs just 43 points to reach 1,000 for his career, ranks second on the team in scoring (12.2 ppg), rebounding (4.4 rpg) and assists (2.2 apg).

Joining Cummings on the first team is Big 5 Player of the Year Darrun Hilliard and Ryan Arcidiaciono from Villanova, DeAndre Bembry from Saint Joseph's and Jordan Price from La Salle.  Rounding out the second team are Villanova standouts Daniel Ochefu and JayVaughn Pinkston and Jerrell Wright from La Salle.

Villanova's Jay Wright was named Coach of the Year with Wildcat freshman Phil Booth earning Rookie of the Year accolades.

The recipients will be recognized at the annual Big 5 banquet in the Palestra, Monday, April 13.  Tickets for the Big 5 banquet on April 13 are $50 each and can be reserved by contacting Steve Crider at 814-935-5015 or steve@philadelphiabig5.org.
