Track and Field Heads to American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships

PHILADELPHIA -Â Temple's track and field team will compete May 14-17 at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Storrs, Conn. at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex. The Owls will be sending 16 athletes to the championships, which will have daily live streaming and live results through the links provided.Â
The free stream will be carried live all four days on The American Digital Network and is available on all desktop, tablet and mobile devices as well as Roku. You can also follow the action on Twitter @AmericanXCTrack and also through Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
Temple is heading into the weekend coming off of a strong showing at the 121st Penn Relays and at the Princeton Open. The Owls earned a gold at the Penn Relays in the 4x400m relay, along with setting school records in the 10,000m run, sprint medley, and mile. Last weekend at the Princeton Open, first-place finishes were earned in the 400m hurdles and again in the 4x400m relay event.
In total, there are seven events in which Temple athletes have top-10 marks in The American so far this season. Leading the women is the duo of Blanca Fernandez and Jenna Dubrow. Both have earned two, top-10 marks in the conference and each of those are school records for Temple.
Fernandez tops the conference in the 1,500m with a time of 4:19.14 and has a fifth-best 800m time of 2:08.15. Dubrow has the third-best time in The American in the 10,000m (35:21.46) and a sixth-best time in the 5,000m (16:58.84).Â
Kenya Gaston holds the ninth-best mark in the 400m dash with a time of 54.58 seconds. Temple's 4x100m relay team is ninth (46.91) in the conference and the 4x400m relay team is third (3:42.75).Â
Numerous other Temple athletes competing this weekend have times or distances that rank them in the top 20 in their respective events.
Competition will begin for the Owls on Thursday, May 14 as Dubrow competes at 6:30 p.m. in the 10,000m run final. Check back to owlsports.com to find out the schedule for any Temple athletes that advance through the trials this weekend.
