All Five Boats Make Finals as Men's Crew Races at SIRA Regatta

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- The Temple men's crew team was five-for-five, as the Owls made the finals in every event they entered, wrapping up day one at the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Regatta.
Temple's varsity eight recorded the fastest times of the day in both of their races. In the openeing heat, the Owls won it in 5:02.7 to advance to the semifinal. In that race, Temple outlasted Delaware, Marietta, Jacksonville, Kansas, and Georgia, recording a 6:14.8 to advance to tomorrow's final.
In varsity four racing, Temple's lightweight crew represented the Owls in a pair of races. In the opening time trial, the crew ranked fourth out of 30 boats, finishing in 5:03.4. In the semis, the Owls were second in 7:11.8, just 2.4 seconds behind Virginia and ahead of UCF, Washington, NC State, and Kansas.
Temple's junior varsity eight had just one race. The crew ranked third out of 13 boats in a time of 5:21.0 to advance to tomorrow's final.Â
In novice racing, both the eight and four boats advanced out of time trials to win their semifinals. The novice eight recorded a semifinal time of 6:24.6, topping UVA, Notre Dame, Texas, Tulane, and Virginia Tech. The novice four also finished first in their semi, clocking in at 7:18.9 to finish ahead of Stetson, Vanderbilt, USF, Miami, and Northwestern State. Both boats will race in tomorrow's finals.Â
