Men's Crew Earns Multiple Medals in Final Day of SIRA Championship

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — The Temple men's crew team capped off a successful weekend with a great showing on day two of the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships. Temple took home four total medals, including winning gold in the novice eight race.
Temple's novice eight's gold medal performance saw more than an eight second victory. The Owls finished in 6:12.42, ahead of second-place Delaware in 6:20.89. Temple also topped Purdue, Virginia, Notre Dame, and UNC in the race.
In varsity eight racing, Temple grabbed a silver medal. The Owls finished in 6:00.28, just off the pace of FIT who won the race in 5:57.32. Temple out-paced crews from Oklahoma City, Purdue, Virginia, and Delaware.
In the second varsity eight race, Temple held off a late charge from Virginia to secure a silver medal. FIT won the race in 6:00.79, with the Owls coming in at 6:05.08. Virginia finished third, followed by Delaware, Purdue, and Notre Dame.
It was a bronze medal finish for the Temple lightweight four, competing in the heavyweight varsity four division. The Owls finished in 6:59.68, just behind George Tech and Oklahoma, but with a comfortable advantage over Virginia, Rollins, and Marietta.
Temple's novice four also raced strong, finishing sixth overall. The Owls clocked in at 7:12.55, just over two seconds behind Georgia Tech who finished fifth.
The Owls are back in action on the Schuylkill River on Saturday for the City Championships.

The Owls are back in action on the Schuylkill River on Saturday for the City Championships.
