4.2.16 | Men's Crew
PHILADELPHIA -- Over 2,300 miles separated the racing on Saturday for the Temple men's crew team, but both the Owls saw equally fast racing on both coasts. The Owls varsity eight competed at the famed San Diego Crew Classic, while the second and third varsity eights, along with the freshman eight, raced Bucknell on the Schuylkill River.Â
In San Diego, the Owls raced in the first of three preliminary heats at the Crew Classic. Temple recorded a time of 6:08.152 in a talented field, topping Santa Clara (6:09.884), San Diego (6:14.684), Washington State (6:23.950), UCLA (6:25.546), and Illinois (6:37.266). The Owls' blistering time stood up after 12 more crews raced, and Temple will compete in the finals tomorrow at 12:52 pm (ET).Â
Back on the banks of the Schuylkill River, three Owl boats competed, as Temple swept Bucknell. TU recorded wins in the second varsity eight, third varsity eight, and freshman eight races.Â
After tomorrow's San Diego Crew Classic, the next time the Owls will be in action at the SIRA Regatta in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on April 16.Â
