Men's Varsity Eight Wins Ash Cup at San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO -- The Temple men's crew team took home gold competing at the famed San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday. The Owls varsity eight was crowned Ash Cup Champions after two days of racing in rough conditions on Mission Bay.Â
In the grand final, Temple led wire-to-wire but fought off several challenges from the second and third place crews. In the end, the Owls finished in a time of 6:23.67, outpacing second-place Purdue by nearly three seconds (6:26.58). Santa Clara (6:31.19) finished in third, followed by British Columbia (6:33.88), UC San Diego (6:38.33), and Loyola Marymount (6:39.95).Â
The Owls return to action as a full team on April 16, competing in the SIRA Regatta in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.Â
